API Latency and Timeout Errors

Starting on approximately September 8th, some customers experienced intermittent latency and timeout errors for some non-sending related API endpoints. The affected endpoints during this period were primarily /messages, /suppressions, /message-streams, and /bounces. The root cause was identified by engineering as system scaling issues due to increased traffic load.

Multiple scaling solutions were implemented throughout September and early October to reduce the severity and frequency of these issues. Engineering is migrating affected services to higher-performance infrastructure and continuing to implement additional system improvements for full resolution. Additionally, we have identified gaps in our system monitoring, alerting, and customer communications. We are implementing improvements to prevent delayed detection and response in the future.
