On April 8th starting at ~16:50 UTC, Postmark experienced an issue involving network connection timeouts that resulted in the delayed delivery of Inbound and SMTP messages. The issue was caused by a period of network instability that prevented some email providers from successfully connecting to our Inbound SMTP servers. While a large portion of messages were delivered once connectivity stabilized, the initial surge of retried traffic exceeded our connection limits, causing some attempts to be refused until the backlog cleared.
SMTP connectivity was intermittently available during this period and fully restored at ~22:53 UTC. These network level connection failures mean some messages may have timed out before reaching us. Affected messages will need to be resent.
We will provide an update tomorrow, April 10th, covering the steps we've taken and will take to ensure this issue does not happen again.
